Step 1
Apply a body wash designed for eczema during your shower. Be sure to apply the body wash wherever you have itchy patches. Lather and rinse. Also, apply an emollient, which helps to soften and smooth the skin. Avoid using washcloths or sponges that will abrade the skin.
-
Step 2
Keep the water warm or cool, but not hot. Hot water can dry out the skin.
-
Step 3
Near the end of your shower, you can lightly apply some mild soaps. Make sure they are fragrance- and steroid-free. Try testing any soap on a patch of skin, to see if you will have any adverse reaction. You may want to limit your soap use to the face, armpits, genitals and so on.
-
Step 4
Pat your skin dry with a soft towel. Never rub the skin, as this will remove the body's natural oils. Blot the skin, so that some water is left behind.
-
Step 5
Apply a moisturizer. Even Vaseline works, or you can try and find a body oil that works for you.

on 12/8/2009 After you have finished your shower - blast your skin with COLD water. That's right you will freeze but it will close the pores quickly and ensure that the skin doesn't heat up from the shower (itch etc)
