Whether you're making your own baby food or buying baby food in bulk, you'll need a good storage system so your little one can enjoy meals throughout the week. Baby food that isn't already packaged in individual containers can spoil very quickly. If you freeze baby food instead, you can create your own portion sizes and store it for long periods of time. Here are some simple ways to freeze baby food.

  • <br>Small spoon

  1. Step 1

Arrange the baby food containers. Set all the plastic containers on the counter and line them up side by side. This prepares them for portioning.

  2. Step 2

Decide how many portions you need of each food. Whether you have mashed peas or a mango puree, prepare small portions of each menu item.

  3. Step 3

Scoop the food into the containers. Use the small spoon to scoop individual servings of each type of food into the containers. You can mix some vegetables and fruits together to create a meal, if needed.

  4. Step 4

Scoop some of the food into ice cube trays. Simple foods such as vegetable and fruit purees can be frozen inside ice cube trays. Fill up the ice cube trays 3/4 full of the ingredients.

  5. Step 5

Cover the containers. Press the lids down firmly onto the plastic containers.

  6. Step 6

Cover the ice cube trays. Use plastic wrap or place the tray inside a large freezer bag to prevent freezer burn.

  7. Step 7

Put all containers and ice cube trays in the freezer. Most foods will be frozen within 4 to 5 hours.

  8. Step 8

Label all foods. Use the sticky labels to mark and date all of the foods so you know what is inside each container and when it was frozen.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you defrost each portion of baby food before you serve it.
  • Use extra layers of plastic wrap or additional freezer bags to avoid freezer burn.
