Things You'll Need:
- Shampoo made for your hair type
- <br>Warm water

Step 1
First, you'll want to choose a shampoo that responds to your hair type. If you have color-treated hair, you'll want a shampoo that doesn't strip color. If you have dandruff, you'll want a shampoo that treats dandruff. This process is usually one of trial and error, because even if a shampoo is designed to solve a certain problem for one person, it doesn't mean it will react that way for you. For example, some shampoos for oily hair can actually strip the scalp of oils, causing it to produce more oil, leaving you with a greasy feeling. Try a few different shampoos and see how they react before settling on one.

Step 2
The easiest way to shampoo your hair is in the shower, but you can repeat this process in a basin with help. First, you'll want to wet your hair with warm water. Make sure your hair is wet from root to tip.
-
Step 3
Squirt a small amount of shampoo in your palms (a quarter to half-dollar sized amount is enough) and rub them together to start a lather.
-
Step 4
Work the lather from your scalp to the tips of your hair. Rake your fingers through your hair to make sure you've gotten it through all of your hair.
-
Step 5
Rinse the shampoo from your hair using warm water. Gently squeeze out extra water using your palms to reduce damage. Continue until all shampoo is rinsed out.
-
Step 6
Repeat this process as needed. With this use of hair products, this means every day for most people, but for those with dry hair, it's best to try to wait 2-3 days before shampooing again.

Step 7
If preferred, follow up this process with your favorite conditioning treatment.
