Step 1
View available photos on your computer. Select the photo you would like to use as a background image. It should be a clear photo, free from any distortions. This will give you the chance to create an impressive background image that means something special to you.

Create a new Xanga account or sign into an existing one. If you are creating a brand new account, then select the “join Xanga now” button to begin. Choose a username and create an easy to remember password. For first time registration, you'll be asked to verify your password, enter an email address, and your birthday. Existing users will need to just enter a username, password, and then click the “sign in” button at the top of the page.

Look for the “Add Stuff” section on your private homepage. Click the “Add Photos” icon to begin uploading your chosen photo. When uploading to the Xanga site, you can choose one or multiple photos. Under the “browse and choose” section, select the “click here” link. You will be directed to your computer's hard drive to choose photos.

Place a checkmark in the “include this photo in your photoblog” box and click the upload button. The other available options can be checked or unchecked according to your preference. If you want others to comment on viewed photos and give them ratings, then choose the option for doing so. Selecting the public option will guarantee that your new background can be viewed by others.

Select the “upload photos” options to begin adding a personalized photo as a Xanga background. When you receive the confirmation message about the uploaded photo, click the photo you want to use as a background. Click the “available sizes” link, copy the “photo url,” and close the pop up.

Click the “view photoblog” link on the left side of the page. Once you arrive there, then place your cursor over the username listed at the top right of this page. It will reveal a few drop down menu options to choose from. Select the “your side-public preview” option and it will give you an idea of what others will see.

Select the “edit theme” link at the top of the page to view more customizable features. In order to change the background image to your very own, click the “background” button and “add an image.” This will give you the chance to paste the “photo url” you copied earlier. There are plenty of options available for you to get the right feel and and look of your page. When you complete this step, select the save button to keep all of your new changes.
