Washing a leotard is easy. Taking care of a garment like this only requires basic know-how and by washing your leotard correctly, you can greatly prolong its life. Whether you wear a leotard for dance, exercise or sport, proper care will keep it clean and functional.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mild soap or detergent
  • Sink, bathtub or laundry tub
  • Hanger or flat, waterproof surface
  • Cold water

    Wash a Leotard

  1. Step 1

    Fill a sink, bathtub or laundry tub with cold water.

  2. Step 2

    Add the appropriate amount of mild soap or detergent.

  3. Step 3

    Work the water and detergent together to create foamy bubbles.

  4. Step 4

    Add your leotard to the soapy water, submerging it completely.

  5. Step 5

    Squeeze the suds through the leotard for about one or two minutes.

  6. Step 6

    Let the leotard sit in the water for about fifteen to twenty minutes.

  7. Step 7

    Drain the soapy water and rinse the leotard under cool running water until the suds are all gone.

  8. Step 8

    Squeeze as much water out of the leotard as you can.

  9. Step 9

    Lay the leotard flat to dry or hang over a hanger.

  10. Step 10

    Allow the leotard to completely dry before wearing.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your leotard is stained, spot treat stains before washing.
  • Don't wring the leotard dry; this may damage the fabric.
  • Don't hang a leotard by its straps on a hanger; this can stretch the straps.
