1
Cut or tear a narrow strip of thin cardboard. You can use all kinds of packaging scraps for this, including cereal boxes or even ordinary shipping boxes.
-
2
Push your nail through the strip of cardboard near one of the edges. Leave at least two inches of cardboard on the other side; this is going to be your "handle."
-
-
3
Hold the nail and put it in place against the surface you want to drive it into. Carefully and lightly tap it a short way into the surface with your hammer. Stop tapping when the nail can stand in place on its own.
-
4
Hold onto the cardboard handle with your free hand while you hammer the nail in the rest of the way. The cardboard should give you enough support to control the nail and keep it straight while you drive it in.
-
5
When the nail is almost all of the way in, tear away the cardboard. Then finish driving it in the rest of the way.
