Instructions

    • 1

If your window and sill have been recently painted, make sure that the paint is completely dry. Then open the window all the way to the top.

    • 2

Use the spray-on furniture wax to spray down the part of the sill where the window rests, as well as the grooves on either side. Look carefully and be sure to put a generous coating on all areas where the window slides up and down.

    • 3

Close the window. It should close much more easily. Open and close the window several times to spread the wax around and get it into the smaller cracks. The window should open and close easier with each attempt.

    • 4

Use paper towels to wipe up any furniture wax that dripped or sprayed onto the inside part of the sill, frame or window itself.

Tips & Warnings

  • Spray-on furniture wax is available at most hardware stores, but in a pinch, other common household lubricants also work well. Cooking spray is even a suitable substitute.

  • Be sure to choose a colorless furniture wax.
