Talking to a horse may seem a bit odd to some people, but for horse owners it makes perfect sense. Talking to your horse can help keep him calm, encourage him to do something, or be comforting to him in certain situations. Not everyone can open up and just start talking to a horse, but it doesn't have to be hard.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep your voice even and steady. Animals can sense fear and uncertainty. Horses can pick up on many things from the tone of your voice and the body language you are giving.

  2. Step 2

Talk soothingly to your horse if he is in a stressful situation, such as having his hooves trimmed or getting shots at the veterinarian's office.

  3. Step 3

Raise your voice and keep it firm when scolding or correcting your horse. Horses can sense the changes in your voice from friendly to stern.

  4. Step 4

Remain friendly and calm when praising your horse. A sweet sounding voice can be a reward for a positive behavior to horses.

  5. Step 5

Talking combined with other praise or punishment can make a difference in how your horse reacts to you.
