Slings create a comfortable, secure way to carry your baby. Here is how to make your own and use it with your baby.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A large scarf made from breathable fabric, like cotton (a cotton sarong scarf works perfectly)
  1. Step 1

Before you buy one, why not make one? Take a large scarf and tie the two end into a secure knot. Next, drape the scarf over one shoulder and under your other arm so that the knot is behind your back and the pouch is settled against your midsection. You may have to adjust the knot a few times to get the perfect fit.

  2. Step 2

Now, cushion the pouch with a baby blanket and place your baby in the pouch.

  3. Step 3

The baby should be laying as if you could carry her like a football held close to your body with one arm.

  4. Step 4

If your baby doesn't look comfortable, adjust him by moving the baby blanket around to create a nice little nest.

Tips & Warnings
  • Breastfeeding mothers may want to adjust the sling so that it is closer to her breast for easy feedings.
  • Always keep one hand on your baby. Even though it may not seem like it, you baby could fall out of the sling.

on 5/6/2008 To invest in a ring sling are completely worth it in my opinion; my regular carry and my nursing carry were different so I had to adjust the sling a lot. I would have gone crazy knotting and reknotting! Ring slings are not hard to make though, and there are many places to purchase them online.
