Installing a graphics card is very simple to do. However, if you don't have the proper equipment or you're scared you might damage your card you might want to take it to a professional and pay them to do it properly.
Keep your graphics card in its anti-static packaging until it is ready to be installed.
Step2
Turn of you computer and detach all power cables so that there is no electrical current running through your system.
Step3
Remove your cases side panel and set it aside. Use an air duster to remove any dust that may have collected inside the case. Try not to touch any components.
Step4
After removing the side panel, locate the expansion slot you wish to use. There are 4 different types of slots for video cards. Determine whether yours is an AGP, PCI, 1xPCI Express, and 16xPCI Express. Make sure your motherboards expansion slot is compatible with your video card. Remove the IO plate located on the back of your computer that corresponds with the slot your going to use.
Step5
Once you have grounded yourself (removing all static electricity) open up the plastic wrapping of the video card.
Step6
Gently insert the graphics card into the selected slot, slowly rock the video card until it locks into the motherboard. Be sure to secure your video by screwing it to the computers case also.
Step7
If your graphics card requires a separate power source you may have to connect it before you power on your system. Most higher end card manufacturers include adapters for use in systems without the correct plug for these cards.
Step8
Once your graphics card is secured and connected to a power source, plug in the power cord and turn your system on before you replace the side panel. Test to make sure the fan on the video card is working, you don't want your card to overheat due to a cheap $5 fan malfunctioning. If everything looks good, turn your system and screw on the side panel.
Step9
Connect your monitor to your graphics card and power up your system.
Step10
Once your operating system loads up you will need to install the proper drivers in order to unleash the power of your new graphics card. These can be found on the installation CD or the manufacturers website.
Step11
Once you've installed the updated drivers, restart your computer and enjoy the visual eye candy that is to come!
