Make the Best Mother's Day Barbecue

The best Mother's Day Celebration I ever experienced was created by my son and his friends. It was a barbecue for 50 mothers on the beach and it was fun, fulfilling and relatively inexpensive. Here's how you, too, can have a great Mother's Day barbecue.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Create a bulletin listing the event
  • Printer to print the bulletins
  • Stamps
  • Email
  • Phone
  1. Step 1

First, decide who will be on the list. The larger the list, the more fun this will be. Find a suitable location, whether it is a park, a beach, a back yard or a public location, and arrange to hold that location. In California, this often means assigning someone to arrive early that morning to hold a spot at parks. Beaches are a little less difficult, but it's still good to have someone arrive early and locate a good spot. At this time, have this person or persons load all the barbecues, umbrellas for shade, or shade awnings and pack them to the location. Bring lots of water in case there is none available. Offer seating even if it is blankets on the ground or folded chairs.

  2. Step 2

Plan the menu. Make all the salads, side dishes and anything that needs advanced preparation away from the site. Make sure they are chilled in coolers, if needed, and covered. It's wise to bring a set of picnic tables that fold and unfold with table cloths to lay out paper plates, cups, eating utensils and assorted snacking foods and condiments.

  3. Step 3

Collect for the meat to be barbecued, or assign one person to prepare this meat. Any advanced marinating should be done the night before. Have the meat prepared and seasoned when you bring it to the site. Make sure you either have enough gas for the grill or coals to heat food throughout the day. Don't forget lighter fluid and matches.

  4. Step 4

Organize events to bring each mother out of their chair and into the spotlight. You can offer a Mother's Day roast, addressing each mother. Offer games that force each mother to participate. Seat mothers in groups where they can share stories together. Share stories of past deeds your mothers did that made them special. This is a gift they will enjoy. Maybe even have a funniest story campaign. Most of all, keep them actively involved. Ensure that each mother is greeted by all the people attending the barbecue.

  5. Step 5

Offer special inexpensive gifts to each mother. Someone can create inexpensive corsages from 99 cent stores. This can be quite creative and a memory they can take home to smile about. Maybe create a special poem and print this on unusual paper, something dedicated to mothers. Balloons are festive, as well, and helium-filled balloons can be tied onto chairs, tables and other equipment. Maybe print photos of each mom and hand them out with the poem.
