Microsoft reserves 20% of your available bandwith for their own purposes like windows updates and interogating your pc etc, this article will help you in getting that 20% bandwith for your own purpose. This article will help you in how to get your available bandwith back from the reserves of microsoft.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Some knowledge in opening the registry.

Step1
Please do read atleast once before doing it.

Click Start ---->Run ----> type "gpedit.msc" without quotes.

This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:
Local Computer Policy ----> Computer Configuration ----> Administrative Templates ----> Network ----> QOS Packet Scheduler ----> Limit Reservable Bandwidth.
Step2
Now Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab i.e."By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."
Step3
So now the trick is to "ENABLE reservable bandwidth", then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%. You are done.

Tips & Warnings

  • This will work on win 2000 also.
  • Do it carefully first read the steps and do step by step.
