Looking for a free way to earn legitimate, steady and passive online income? Consider writing online content and submitting it to user-generated content based sites that share their ad-revenue with their contributors.

Popular ad-revenue sharing user-generated content based sites include communities and directories based on: articles, forums, news, video, blogging, gossip, research, wikis, social networks and discussion groups.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • New Member/User accounts to participating sites and programs.
  • Google Adsense Account.
  • Paypal.com Account.
  1. Step 1

Go to the "Resources" section below and browse through the ad-revenue sharing user-generated content based sites and programs.

There are 2 common ad-revenue sharing models that sites and programs use. There's the Google Adsense Ad-Revenue Sharing Model, which requires you to have your own Google Adsense Account so that your Publisher ID can be linked. And, there's the Site Managed Ad-Revenue Sharing Models, which only requires you to have a member/user account with the sites and program you are contributing your articles and/or content to.

One model is directly linked to your Google Adsense Account and Google pays you directly. The other tracks and reports your earnings to a site managed member account and each site pays you directly. For further explanation of these models, go to the "Resources" section below for a link to "22 Ad-Revenue Sharing Sites and Programs".

  2. Step 2

Start out by selecting and joining 2 of these sites/programs. Choose one that uses Google Adsense Sharing and one that uses their own Site Managed Sharing model. For example, HubPages uses Google Adsense Sharing and eHow uses their own Site Managed Sharing. Both are excellent models I'd recommend starting with.

  3. Step 3

Learn the format. Each site uses some type of web-based format for you to submit or upload your articles. Familiarize yourself and learn everything you can. Pay close attention to each site's guidelines and policies. I cannot stress this enough. By doing so, you'll save yourself a lot of time, effort and frustration.

  4. Step 4

Write articles and/or content and submit. The easiest way to get started writing articles is to write about stuff you already know. Make a list of your interests, skills, abilities, experiences and things that you have a knack for or know about. This will help you drum up ideas for article subjects and topics.

  5. Step 5

Tweak your articles, if necessary. Many sites allow you to go back and edit your articles. This is great because it enables you to get better performance from your articles. Often times you can do this just by editing your tags, keywords and/or categories.

  6. Step 6

Promote your articles. What's great about these sites is that they generate their own traffic to your articles/content. But, you can also help to increase traffic to your stuff by doing some self-promotion. Submit your articles to sites like Digg.com and StumbleUpon.com. Also, be sure to link to your articles in your email signature and on your blog and/or website.

  7. Step 7

Give your articles/content time to generate income for you. Remember, you are creating passive income streams and you have to be patient. This can sometimes be difficult to remember, but you must be patient! Concentrate on creating new articles and content.

  8. Step 8

Join more sites and programs and repeat the process.

Tips & Warnings
  • Although making money online this way requires and initial investment of time, effort and patience - it is an excellent way to generate multiple and passive online income streams!
  • Be patient. Give your articles and content time to generate income for you. You must look at making money this way as an investment. Think "long term". Some articles may earn you only $1 a day - but that's $365 in a year! Not bad for about an hour's worth of work!
  • Tweak your articles. I've had articles generating little to no income until I tweaked them a bit. Editing and updating the content, tags, keywords and/or categories can greatly improve an articles' performance.
  • Don't use recycled content. Write your own stuff. Search engines favor unique content. If you want to use an article you've written somewhere else re-write it, especially where you use keywords and phrases. Duplicate content errors will result in wasted time and effort.
  • Edit your content carefully for grammar and spelling.

on 7/23/2008 I am a huge fan of passive income and maximizing your writing income through online content that keeps generating income. I've written several articles and an eBook on maximizing eHow earnings, and find that optimizing your keywords for Google searches is the best way to ensure high returns.
