Different types of sippy cup straws

It's amazing how much dirt accumulates inside your child's sippy cup straws. So how do you get them clean? Here's how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Q-tips
  • Dishwashing liquid
  1. Step 1

Remove the straw from the sippy cup. Most cups come with removable straws. If they don't, you can still use this method to get them clean.

  2. Step 2

Run hot water through the straw to give them an initial cleansing.

  3. Step 3

Take a tiny amount of dishwashing liquid on one end of the Q-tip and insert through one end of the straw and pull it out.

Do the same with the other end.

Q-tips are generally not long enough to go through the straw from one end to the other, but inserting it from both ends will get the job done just as well. You could also insert one Q-tip and use another to push it out through the other end.

  4. Step 4

Rinse the straw well under running hot water to wash all the soap out.

Reinsert into cup and let dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • For wider straws, hold 2 Q-tips together and proceed as detailed above.

"This mom-invented, BPA FREE SIPPY STRAW CLEANER, is a must have product for any parent with young children. After searching hundreds of mommy message boards that ask the question “how do you clean a sippy straw” and never finding a full proof method, I took it upon myself to design, develop, patent, and package an answer. The SIPPY STRAW CLEANER is an outstanding solution for dealing with the constant frustrations of trying to clean the insides of children’s sippy, thermos, accordion, and sports bottle straws. Most importantly, the SIPPY STRAW CLEANER universally fits ALL major brands of sippy straw cups.

Being a mother, I only wanted to develop a product that was safe for both me and my children. The Sippy Straw Cleaner underwent weeks of laboratory testi...

on 6/21/2009 I did it this way: cut the qtip in half. Put 1 qtip end on the point of a bamboo skewer and then push it through. That way you push the "dirt" from one end to the other. Do it again with the second qtip end from the other end of the straw to make sure you got everything. Wash and dry as usual.
