Tile and grouted counter tops can look amazing, but they can be difficult to keep clean. Food and other grime tends to get trapped in the grout lines, and it can be a pain to clean them when the dirt dries.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • dishwasher detergent
  • toothbrush
  • water
Step1
Spread the dishwasher detergent liberally over the tiled surface. Do not forget to get it into the grout lines.
Step2
Let the detergent set for a few hours. (2 or 3 ought to do.)
Step3
After it has set, use the toothbrush to scrub the grout lines.
Step4
Scrub the whole surface with water until there is no soap remaining.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use an old toothbrush to clean. Think of it as recycling.
  • Keep germs from toothbrushing away from the counter surface by running the toothbrush through a cycle in the dishwasher.
  • If you do no have a dishwasher, place the toothbrush in Listerine for a few minutes to kill the bacteria. Rinse before scrubbing.
  • Make sure all the detergent is off the counter/tabletop before preparing food. Soap can make you sick if ingested.
