A few more.
1. Filling Gas in the morning is not that useful. Most pumps store gas underground and there is very little change in temperature in the tank.
2. Clean air filters do not really increase efficiency of the engine. Modern engines are microprocessor controlled and do not reduce efficiency. Yes, you might get better response with a cleaner air filter.
Add this.
1. When you start for shopping drive to the farthest destination first and on your return stop at the rest of the places. This helps you get better efficiency for stop and go traffic as the engine would have heated up.
2. Switch off your engines if you are stopping for more than 10 secs. It will save fuel.

In Chicago we got over $4 a gallon around a week ago.
Follow these tips and you'll not only save on gas mileage, you'll save
a) the environment
b) your car's resale value as well as wear & tear (through proper care with frequent oil & air filter changes)
c) your insurance premiums through less accidents when you slow down
d) potential traffic tickets (also from slowing down)
e) maybe a life or two when you slow down (remember - cars are deadly)
f) your health (financially represented in insurance and medical bills, overall savings are limitless) when you walk a little further in the parking lot or, better yet, avoid driving if you can get there from public transportation or just walk it if your journey is less than a mile!

I'll bet you save more than gas if you use the above steps.
You'll help save the environment, save wear & tear on your car to get better performance and a better resale value with frequent oil & air filter changes, and save on insurance when you slow down and avoid accidents (and maybe save a life or two - cars are deadly you know...).
Finally, save your health by driving less (and save on insurance and medical bills). This could be as simple as not hovering around looking for a parking spot right next to the door, or completely avoiding the car if public transportation is available or the trip is less than a mile.
