On the outside looking in it may appear that transferring to USC is a daunting task, but take it from me it really isn’t. Knowledge is power and the following steps may keep you from having to call the Admission Center a hundred times. Trust me they will appreciate it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet
  • application
  • Ariculaton Agreement

Step1
academe27 First and most importantly visit the USC website at www.usc.edu it is the key that opens the door to answered questions.
Step2
student28 Once you’re there click on Admission located at the top. A drop box may appear giving you three options - Undergraduate, Graduate or Financial Aid. Click on Undergraduate, which will take you to Undergraduate Admission. Click on Admission once again, now you’re on the Overview page http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/admission. Below are three headings – Freshmen, Transfer Student and International Students, click on Transfer Students http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/admission/transfer.
Step3
academe20 Read the information and the six links, but pay attention to the one for Transfer Planning Worksheet. The first two boxes have Course Required for Admission written on top. Mathematics and English are the two requirements you must meet to apply. The English course must meet USC’s writing 130. Now scroll over or down to General Education. There are six GE courses that USC students must complete in order to graduate, but transfer students can take four and transfer them in. These are not requirements to get into USC, but the applicant benefits from taking them because they reduce the amount of classes a student has to take if they are admitted and the cost of paying for those units. You do the math - $1,249 x sixteen units equals a lot of money.
Step4
academe25 If you are attending a community college in California check out the USC Office of Articulation page www.usc.edu\articulation and print your college’s agreement. An articulation is an agreement between USC and community colleges in California that states the courses that will transfer to USC during a certain period. USC doesn’t offer agreements for out of state schools and very few for California universities.
Step5
spirit21 Keep in mine if you have less than 30 units outside of USC the Admission Office will have to take into consideration your high school grades, courses, and standardized test scores, including your college work for admission. If you have 30 units or more then Admission would only need to consider your college work. Your high school transcript would only be looked at to confirm your graduation and if you've met the math requirement.

Tips & Warnings

  • As stated in the article visit the website.
  • If possible attend an information session for transfer students, which you can check out at Visit USC located on their website.
  • Always remember to FIGHT ON!
  • Keep in mind USC is extremely competitive.
