In yoga, the lion pose is meant to stimulate the lymph nodes and immune functions located in the neck, perhaps even helping to prevent a sore throat. Some practitioners also claim that it grants courage. If this sounds appealing, read on to learn how to do the lion pose.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Kneel on the floor. Cross your ankles behind you, so that your feet point out to the sides. Gently, sit back on your top heel.

  2. Step 2

Press your palms firmly against your knees. Splay your fingers wide, and bare them like the sharpened claws of a lion.

  3. Step 3

Inhale deeply through your nose. Simultaneously, open your mouth wide and stretch out your tongue. Curl the tip of your tongue down toward your chin, and open your eyes wide. Slowly, exhale the breath slowly through your mouth, with a distinct "ha." Contract the muscles in the front of your throat, while your breath passes over the back of your throat.

  4. Step 4

Focus your eyes on a point in front of you, either the middle of your brow or the tip of your nose. If you like, roar a few times.

  5. Step 5

    Cross opposite ankles, and repeat.
