Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Mentally prepare yourself for the type of look you want to capture. For instance, you may want your family portrait to reflect dignity and grace. Have this idea in mind and remember to vocalize your vision to the photographer before the photo shoot.
Step2
Ask your family, friends and co-workers for a reference. Networking is always a good way to find out information. If you are in need of a wedding photographer, ask to see your friend’s wedding album. You can take this opportunity to decide if this photographer would be in the running.
Step3
Conduct a detailed Internet search for photographers. Many photographers have websites that display their bio and portfolio. Take a moment to find photographers in your area and review their online portfolios.
Step4
Call the photographers you found online and do some comparison shopping. Ask for packages that best suit your budget. You may find that you need less poses and wardrobe changes than you actually want.
Step5
Check your local newspapers for advertisements.
