How to Make Your Own Maze Trivia Game
-
1
Using blocks or other construction toys, help your kids to build a walled maze. Adjust the level to their age and ability. Add a few twists and turns and detours. Have fun with it. There is no right or wrong way. Just have a beginning and an end.
-
2
Gather four or five figures (action figures are fine) or animals. Fantastical creatures such as unicorns, dragons or griffins are great, but dinosaurs or crocodiles or even talking trees will do the trick. Position them in front of key entry areas in the maze. The idea is for the fantastical figure to ask your kid(s)' pawns a question or pair of questions (for two kids). This keeps them as a team, not competing against each other, but against the maze. If they answer the question(s) great -- they get to move on to the next obstacle. If not, they go back to start!

3
Hidden in front of you, have access to Brainquest or any other children's game or trivia source (printed out from a website) for questions. If you have two different-aged kids, you can ask them each a question based on their individual level.
-
4
Let the player(s) start their pawns (can also be action figures) along the path of the maze. In a booming voice, ask questions at each juncture. If the kid or kids answer correctly, they can crash the obstacle down and continue on their way. If they don't -- remember, it's back to start. (But no big deal -- you can always make the next round of questions easier).
-
5
Make sure the last figure at the exit of the maze is the scariest, largest or most magical. Let this question or pair of questions be the trickiest to answer. Have a treasure chest or "gold" pieces ready outside the exit. The winner or winning team (it's impossible to lose) wins the gold!

Tips & Warnings
Making the maze can be half of the playing time.
For a gentler game, the fantastical figures can move aside for the pawns to pass through (they don't have to be crashed down).
Don't forget to have the kids clean up!
