How to Add Sequence Marker Comments and Links in Adobe Premiere Pro

When editing clips in Adobe Premiere Pro, you can use something called a “marker” in an area of clip where you want to make a note for yourself. These may be for any reason, such as an important action or sound within the clip, or to divide your film into segments. Markers are only for your reference, as they do not change the video you are working on. You can add a marker to any point in a sequence, or to any point in a source clip. After you have added a marker to your project, you can add comments, chapters or Web links to your markers. Here is what each of these Markers are, and what to use them for.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Add a marker to a point in your sequence, or to a clip in your project. Double-click on the marker point that appears in the Timeline’s time ruler. The Marker Dialog Box will open.

  2. Step 2

Make a marker comment, which can contain any comments or notes you want to associate with the marker. If you just want to type a comment for yourself, do so in the Comments area and click "OK."

  3. Step 3

Insert a chapter point comment. This is for your later reference when creating a DVD. Chapters divide a movie on a DVD into segments that allow viewers to go to a specific point in a movie. Under “Marker Options” go to “Chapter” and type in your comment for your later reference. Click "OK."

  4. Step 4

Add a Web link comment, which is a marker that can be used later if your video is being used for viewing on a Web page. When your film is playing online and it reaches the point in the film where the web link is placed, that web page will automatically open. Type the target website in the space next to “URL” and click "OK."

  5. Step 5

To enter comments for any other markers previously set, you may click “Previous” or “Next.” Otherwise, click "OK."
