When editing clips in Adobe Premiere Pro, you can use something called a “marker” in an area of clip where you want to make a note for yourself. These may be for any reason, such as an important action or sound within the clip. Markers are only for your reference, so they do not change the video you are working on. You can add a numbered or unnumbered marker to any point in a sequence, or to any point in a source clip.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider that each clip and each sequence of clips can have up to 100 “numbered” markers, ranging from 0 to 99, and an unlimited number of “unnumbered” markers.

  2. Step 2

Open the clip from within the Source Monitor to add a numbered marker to a clip. You may also select the clip in the Timeline panel by clicking on it.

  3. Step 3

Select the Program Monitor or Timeline panel by clicking on it to set a marker for a sequence.

  4. Step 4

Position the current-time indicator to the point in your clip where you want to set the marker.

  5. Step 5

Go to the Marker menu at the top of your workspace and select “Set Clip Marker” (or “Set Sequence Marker”), and choose an option from the submenu. The options are “Next Available Numbered,” which will set a numbered marker using the lowest unused number, or “Other Numbered,” which will open a dialog box where you can type in an unused number between 0 and 99.

  6. Step 6

Double-click on the clip in the Project panel to add an unnumbered marker to a clip. This will open it in the Source Monitor. To add a marker to a clip that is in a sequence, double-click on the clip to open it in the Source Monitor.

  7. Step 7

Scroll, with the Source Monitor active, to the time location where you want the marker to be set, and click the “Set Unnumbered Marker” button. In the Source Monitor window, it is the third button from the right, to the left of your time controls.
