How to Display the Internet Explorer Menu

If you have used Internet Explorer in the past and are currently using Internet Explorer 7, you might wonder what happened to the menus that used to be displayed. These menus are turned off in Internet Explorer 7, but you do have the option to turn them back on. These steps will show you how to display the Internet Explorer menu.

If you Want to Temporarily Display the Menus

1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the icon on your desktop. Alternatively, click the “Start” button, then “Programs” or “All Programs,” and choose "Internet Explorer" from the list of installed programs.

2. Press the “Alt” key.

3. The menus will display, but will disappear when you click anywhere on the page, or navigate away from the page.

If you Want to Display the Menus Permanently

1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking its icon on your desktop. Alternatively, click the “Start” button, then “Programs” or “All Programs,” and then choose "Internet Explorer" from the list of installed programs.

2. Click “Tools” on the toolbar, and then click “Menu Bar.” The menu bar will appear.

3. To turn menus off again, click "Tools" and click on "Menu Bar" to-select it. The menus will no longer appear.
