Babies can be picky when they begin eating solid foods, and who has money to throw away on lost food? There is a very easy way to freeze both homemade and pre-packaged baby food so you can let your little one try a little at a time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Jarred or homemade baby food
  • Several clean plastic ice trays
  • Plastic wrap or Glad Press ‘n Seal
  • Masking tape and marker
  • Empty space in a freezer
  1. Step 1

Set out the jars of baby food or the homemade baby food, spoons, ice trays, plastic wrap or Press ‘n Seal, masking tape and markers. Eyeball the amount of baby food you have to freeze and estimate how many ice cube trays you will need. Keep in mind that small jars will give 2 servings and large jars will give 4.

  2. Step 2

Open the baby food and use a spoon to scoop out half of food in the small jars. Place the food in one ice tray slot and proceed by putting the other scoops in each slot. Make sure to do half or full trays of the same food so labeling will be easier.

  3. Step 3

Begin labeling the masking tape with the appropriate kind of food in the trays. Tear off an appropriately sized piece of the plastic wrap or Glad Press ‘n Seal and lay it flat on your clean counter. Apply the masking tape labels and press firmly so label will adhere to the plastic.

  4. Step 4

Place the plastic on the appropriate trays and seal tightly. Move the trays to the freezer, placing them flat so the food does not spill out. Stack the trays 2 to 3 high and allow them to freeze.

  5. Step 5

Once frozen, dislodge a food cube as needed and defrost in the microwave before feeding.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Glad Press ‘n Seal will work best for this project since it won’t droop into the ice tray slots.
  • Once the cubes are frozen, you can dislodge them and store them in air tight containers or quality freezer bags.
  • Make sure you cycle through your trays so the cubes do not get freezer burn.
  • Just as with regular baby food, make sure you test the temperature of the defrosted baby food cube before giving it to your child.
