Colicky babies can wear thin the patience of any parent. While there is no definitive way to help colic, here are some things to try.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sling
  • Warm blanket
  • Warm shower
  1. Step 1

Place your baby on her back on your lap with her legs on your stomach, or press her knees to her stomach. Colic has been linked to digestive problems, and this may help her stomach feel better.

  2. Step 2

Hold your baby’s body across your forearm with his head in the crook of your arm or the palm of your hand. His stomach will be pressed against your forearm. The pressure will be soothing to the baby’s tummy. Swing your baby back and forth.

  3. Step 3

Swaddle your baby in a warm blanket.

  4. Step 4

Carry your baby in a sling and walk around. Holding her close may sooth her.

  5. Step 5

Take your baby into the shower with you.

  6. Step 6

Play quiet music or white noise for your baby.

  7. Step 7

Breastfeed or give him a pacifier. The act of sucking can help.

Tips & Warnings
  • All babies are unique. Different things may work at different times. Experiment.
  • Check with your pediatrician to make sure your baby really is colicky and does not have a serious illness.
