Spring is a fun time to bring your pet bunnies to share in your kindergartener's classroom. Be prepared for some lugging of equipment to keep the bunnies happy during their day-long adventure at school. It's a memory your child will cherish later, being able to share a little springtime joy with her friends and feeling important. Plus the kids get to learn about rabbits and nature, and everyone likes to pet a soft, furry bunny.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Pet carrier or cardboard box
  • Newspaper
  • Portable crib, playpen or metal animal exercise pen
  • Litter box
  • Food and water

Step1
Line a pet carrier or cardboard box with newspaper. Don't put the bunnies in the carrier until the last minute.
Step2
Pack your car with a portable crib, playpen or metal animal exercise pen that flattens easily. Pack newspaper, litter box, food and water.
Step3
Put the bunnies in their carrier and head to the school.
Step4
In the classroom, have the teacher put the kids in a circle, with no gaps between children. You want the kids to create a wall that the bunnies can't escape through once they're in the middle of the circle. As the teacher is getting the kids in order, set up the playpen in a quiet corner of the classroom. The bunnies will be able to stay in the room all day after you share them, in the playpen.
Step5
When the circle is ready, take the bunnies out and place them in the middle of the circle. Have the kids stay still if possible, and tell them the bunnies will hop over to them if they're quiet. This is a good time to talk about bunnies--what they eat, what they do all day, what their names are, how old they are. Your child will be happy to help share this information.
Step6
Help each child hold a bunny. Take turns setting the bunnies in each child's lap, and help them hold and pet the bunnies gently. After everyone gets a turn, place the bunnies in the playpen for the kids to enjoy watching the rest of the day.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't leave your bunnies in the car, since they are heat-sensitive and can die from getting too hot!
