How to Inhale

How you breathe is very important to relieving stress in your body. These steps show how to do the most beneficial inhale--low breathing. You will learn how to do it slowly, with pauses, so you can understand what you are doing, but you can inhale and exhale at your own pace.

Instructions

    • 1

Breathe in and out normally. Take note of what's happening with your body. Are your shoulders rising up? Is your chest heaving? Is your belly filling with air?

    • 2

For low breathing, the inhale must happen in the lower chest and stomach. Slowly begin to breathe in.

    • 3

Make sure your chest and shoulders do not move much (if at all).

    • 4

Do not force your inhale. Once you feel you have taken in enough air, stop.

    • 5

Pause for a second, feeling the oxygen going through your body before exhaling, slowly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure your body is relaxed. This type of inhale is good to do in stressful circumstances.

  • Don't hold your breath. If you get dizzy or light-headed, stop and resume normal breathing.
