      Open Windows Live Messenger.

      Begin a “Conversation Window” by double clicking the name of the contact you want to IM.

      Click on the “Handwriting” button at the bottom of your “Conversation Window.” This button looks like a pen or pencil.

      Click the pen tool button in the formatting toolbar to write your message or even draw a picture.

      If you make a mistake, click the eraser button and drag it across your errors.

      You can also change the ink color or add stationery by clicking the appropriate buttons in your “Conversation Window” toolbar.

      When you are finished writing your message, click “Send.”

Tips & Warnings

  • To send handwritten messages you must have specific software installed: Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 2000 (upgraded to Service Pack 3 or later); Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer 1.5; Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer Security Update.

  • In order for your contact to be able to view an IM in your handwriting, they must be using Windows Live Messenger 8.0 or newer.
