How to Sell Paparazzi Photos

If you love the world of celebrities and are interested in photography, you can combine both passions and make quite a lucrative living by selling paparazzi photos to magazines. The competition is fierce and you won’t get much love from the people you are following, but as long as you follow a few basic rules, you should be able to have fun and make money at the same time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Good camera (film or digital)
Step1
Get the right equipment. Unless you get an exclusive photo of a hot celebrity doing something shocking (in which case the quality of the photo is secondary), you are more likely to sell a photo if you can get a good shot of print quality. Whether you are using traditional film or a digital camera, make sure you have a good lens zoom, a quick shooting camera and a powerful flash.
Step2
Make a list of tabloids or general magazines that publish paparazzi photos. When you shoot a picture, contact those publications first to see if they are interested. Keep in mind these magazines often have their own photographers, so you will need to come up with something special for them to stand up and pay attention.
Step3
Join People Paparazzi, the leading agency for amateur photographers looking to sell celebrity photos. Anybody can join by visiting their official website, which allows you to upload not only photos but also videos. People Paparazzi became famous as the agency that got the exclusive photo of Britney Spears’ first wedding (shot by a couple who happened to be there as the same time).
Step4
Sell your photos online. If you don’t have an exclusive photo that magazines are likely to fight over, you can still sell your pictures by joining paparazzi websites such as Mr. Paparazzi . See the Resources below for a link. The website acts as an intermediary between you and magazines, taking a percentage as commission for each sale.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid breaking the law. Many magazines will not buy a photo if you entered private property or committed some kind of illegal act in order to obtain a photo.
