Nothing tastes better than a bowl of warm soup on a wintry day. Besides using a microwave to warm up a store-bought cup, you can keep a perpetual soup pot going all winter long for eating whenever the mood strikes you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large stockpot
  • Large crock pot or
  • Wood heater or stove
  1. Step 1

Use a large stockpot to make a large batch of basic soup on your stove. Use any ingredients you have on hand for the meat and vegetables.

  2. Step 2

Transfer the cooked soup to a crock pot if you don’t have a wood heater or wood stove. Turn the crock pot on the lowest setting and allow the soup to stay warm. If you have a wood stove or wood heater, set the stockpot on top and just let it simmer.

  3. Step 3

Add additional ingredients, such as dried or canned beans, more vegetables, pastas or browned meats, each time you serve the soup.

  4. Step 4

Make sure the soup stays near boiling, as this will keep bacteria from growing.

  5. Step 5

Change the soup every few days. Add tomatoes, a cream soup or brown rice to give the meal a different flavor. Almost any leftovers from a meal can be thrown into the soup pot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't let the soup sit without heat for more than 4 hours. If you turn off the stove, refrigerate the soup. If the soup sits unheated for more than 4 hours, throw it out.
