How to Apply False Nails Like A Professional

Nicely manicured hands and nails never go unnoticed. You could spend a pretty penny getting your acrylic nails done periodically, or you could follow these tips for getting the look you want at a price you can afford.

Things You'll Need:

• Artificial nail kit

1. 

   Purchase your artificial nail kit. Kits usually include artificial nails, nail glue, an emery board and a cuticle stick. You can find these kits at any drugstore or beauty supply store. The kit that is being used in this demonstration contains nails that already have been polished, making this super easy.

2. Wash your hands and nails. Use a nail brush to make sure that nails are completely clean. If you have any polish on your nails, use nail polish remover before washing your hands and nails. Dry both thoroughly.

3. 

   File your natural nails at both the tips and the tops of the nails to create a smooth surface.

4. 

   Before applying the artificial nails, match them to your natural nails so that they fit perfectly. There should be no overlap, nor should the artificial nails be smaller than your natural nails.

5. 

   Arrange the artificial nails in the order in which they will appear on your hands.

6. 

   Apply the thumbnail of your dominant hand first. Spread glue on the underside of the artificial nail that will fit on your nail bed. Apply the nail to your thumb, getting the edge of the nail as close to your cuticle as possible. Do not place the nail on top of your cuticle. Press and hold the artificial nail for 5 to 10 seconds.

7. 

   Repeat Step 6 for the remaining fingers on that first hand.

8. 

   If your artificial nails have application tips, remove the tips once you complete the entire hand. File down any rough edges.

9. 

   Repeat Steps 6 through 8 for your other hand. You're done.

• If you notice a dark spot under your nails after wearing them for a short period of time, remove them immediately. This dark spot is actually fungus caused by moisture caught under the nail and not allowed to dry properly.
• Once done with the nail glue, place in a location that children will not be able to access. The nail glue is very similar to super glue.

on 5/1/2009 Are you talking about getting glue on your skin around the nail? If so, use an emery board and carefully sand it down. There is a special remover that you can get in cosmetic stores and departments for artificial nails.

on 5/1/2009 does anyone know how to remove excess glue?? i got some on my nails and dont want to use nail polish remover because it will dissolve th nail...
