How to Remove Mold from Color Fabric

Who doesn't hate opening a rubbermaid container of summer clothes you had stored in the basement only to find they have accumulated mold and mildew in the damp storage space? This article will tell you how you can safely and easily remove mold and mildew, even from colored clothing.

Things You’ll Need:

• Gallon bucket
• Scrub Brush
• Hydrogen Peroxide

1. If you have clothing that shows signs of mold and/or mildew, first gather the affected pieces.
2. Fill a 5 gallon bucked one third of the way full with one part water and one part peroxide.
3. Place a couple of affected clothing pieces in the bucket and let soak for two to four hours or over night, depending on amount of soiling.
4. When clothing is done soaking, remove from bucket and drain solution into a sink or bath drain.
5. If there are any spots still visible on the clothing, lay the pieces out flat and use a scrub brush to gently work the stain. If it is stubborn, you may want to continue to soak the item overnight.
6. You may want to put your clothes through one regular cycle of the washing machine with your normal laundry detergent after you soak them in the peroxide solution.

Tips & Warnings

• Hydrogen Peroxide should not discolor your clothes, even the colored ones.
