How to Make Fresh Buttermilk Ranch Dressing or Dip- So Easy!

Steve and Gayle Henson opened a dude ranch, known as Hidden Valley Ranch, near Santa Barbara, California in 1954. Steve Henson became famous for his wonderful dressing which we all now know as Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing.
Fresh ranch dressing is both quick easy to make at home. The basis of which is buttermilk, mayonnaise, vinegar, green onion and herbs, Modify the ingredients as they suit you and your family and call it your own!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup fresh buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise- regular, low-fat for fat free
  • 2 tablespoons white-wine vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup of minced green onion
  • 1/3 cup or more of chopped fresh herbs such as parsley, basil , chives, tarragon or dill (optionally use 2 tablespoons dried herbs)
  1. Step 1

    Whisk or use a jar with a tight fitting lid to shake together all ingredients until well blended.

  2. Step 2

    If using a whisk, stir in herbs, onion and bacon bits after whisking remaining ingredients.

  3. Step 3

    To add variety try adding finely chopped red or white onion and/or bacon bits or parmesan cheese. Use your imagination and experiment with different herbs and other ingredients.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ranch Dressing is perfect with hot wings, chips, crackers, over burgers as well as with many other everyday foods.
  • To make a thicker dip like dressing, use more mayonnaise and less buttermilk, or substitute sour cream for some of the buttermilk.
  • Adjust ingredients according to your taste
