Step 1
Keep your windows closed! Open windows allow allergens to float their way into your home.
-
Step 2
Remove clothing and shoes at the front door reducing the transfer of pollen throughout the home.
-
Step 3
Wash hands often, indoors and out.
-
Step 4
Shower, be sure to shower in the evenings rather than the morning so that the pollen is out of your hair. If possible, shower as soon as you come indoors.
-
Step 5
Use Air filters in bedrooms. Be sure the filters are clean before each season.
-
Step 6
Wear a hat outdoors and if you have long hair, keep it tied up.
-
Step 7
Wear long sleeve cotton shirts over your t-shirt to keep the pollen off your skin.
-
Step 8
Avoid touching your mucus membranes such as eyes, nose and mouth. This could trigger a severe allergic reaction.
-
Step 9
Have someone else mow your lawn and stay off it the day it is cut. Bag it and put it in your compost pile. No need to leave fresh clippings allover the lawn as they generally cause quite a reaction to allergic persons.
-
Step 10
Hose down all your lawn furniture and patio before sitting on it and follow with a rag to wipe up any residue.
-
Step 11
Keep allergy medications on hand for emergencies.
-
Step 12
Watch the news and weather for high pollen counts. When the pollen count is high, it is a good idea for people with allergies to stay indoors when possible.
