Creating a website to memorialize a family member is relatively easy these days with sites that provide you with free easy to use tools and space.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To create a website to memorialize a family member, or anyone, for that matter, you will need some web space. You could, of course, buy a domain name from any number of sites, but the easiest and quickest way would be sign up with a website that provides free space and easy to use tools, where the required knowledge of HTML or any kind of programming language is minimal or nil. Try www.geocities.com (if you have a yahoo account, you can simply sign in with your login id). There are also websites that specialize in building online memorials for a fee.

  2. Step 2

This step describes the geocities website building process. Once you are signed up or signed in, you can begin to create your pages. Under The Basic Site Building Tools, choose either the Yahoo! PageBuilder to create a multipage site with your own design. Or you can choose a theme from the PageWizards as a quick, easy way to create a one page site. Alternatively, you can create pages on your computer (in FrontPage, for instance) and upload them to the geocities server. You can link in word documents or .jpg files to display on your site.

  3. Step 3

Now the main point: memorializing the family member. Whether you decide to go with the free site or the paid, here is a list of possible items to include in the memorial.

    * Write a short biography of the person. You could include achievements, hobbies, favorite foods, etc.
    * Add pictures of the person: alone, at family gatherings, at social events.
    * Add videos or links to videos that mark special events in the person's life.
    * Add written material created by the person.
    * Create a chronological timeline of the person's life highligting important events.
    * Add a guestbook where visitors to the site can share their memories of the person.
    * Add poetry or articles about the person. Provide a space for visitors to do the same.
    * Allow visitors to add virtual flowers or candles to the site to show their respects.
    * Include a family tree.

Tips & Warnings
  • Knowing a bit of HTML can help enhance your site.

I have one question though...

How can do I send the webpage created on Frontpage or Word?
