How to Make Peanut Butter Fudge

If you're looking for quick peanut butter fudge, you better look elsewhere. This is real, old-fashioned cooked peanut butter fudge. This recipe always brings memories back to me of family tv nights, popcorn and fudge.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 c sugar
  • 2 T Karo syrup
  • 1 c water
  • salt
  • 1/4 c butter or margarine
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1/4 t cream of tartar
  • 1 1/4 c peanut butter
  • buttered 8"X8" cake pan

Step1
Combine sugar, water, corn syrup and salt in a 2-qt saucepan and cook on medium heat until it spins a thread*.

* Pick the spoon up out of the pan and let the liquid pour off. As the last of it drips off, the stream will narrow. When it has cooked enough, the last of the liquid narrows to a fine, spider web type of thread.
Step2
Remove from heat. Add the margarine and stir until melted.
Step3
Add the cream of tartar followed by the peanut butter.
Step4
Stir hard and pour into the buttered dish or cake pan.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the fudge hardens too quickly, you can butter the back side of a large spoon to help you smooth it out.
  • As soon as the peanut butter is mixed in, pour the fudge into the buttered dish as quickly as possible as this fudge hardens very quickly!
