How to Determine Your Facial Shape

Your face makes a first impression.

The shape of your face determines many things. It influences makeup application. The brim of a hat, style of sunglasses and even the size and shape of earrings all present differently depending on the shape of your face. It also makes the difference between choosing a good hairstyle and a great hairstyle. Your face is the first impression you make. Take the time to understand how its shape interacts with your overall style and appearance.

Things You'll Need

• Large mirror
• Dry-erase marker
• Headband
• Paper towel
• Window cleaner

Instructions

1. Pull your hair away from your face. Use a headband or put your hair in a ponytail. This will allow you to eliminate the shape of your hair from your silhouette.

2. Stand in front of a large mirror. You must be close enough to easily reach the mirror with your hand.

3. Trace the shape of your face directly onto the mirror using a dry erase marker. Use window cleaner and a paper towel to clean the mirror when you are done.

4. Step away from the mirror and evaluate the shape you have drawn. Compare the shape to a chart of possible face shapes. Shapes include oval, round, oblong, square, triangular and heart.
