If you have started a Home Based Business consistently advertising your business is a must. Getting creative with your advertising will help you leverage your warm market as well as your cold market.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Your Business Cards
  • Flyer's of your opportunity
  • Vehicle-transportation
  • Enthusiasm
  • Telephone or Skype
Step1
Create a Business Card. This can be done free at vistaprint or your home based business may supply them to you if your in Direct Sales or Network Marketing.
Step2
Lets start with getting out of the house and putting your business card everywhere in a one mile radius. Gas Station pumps are great place to place business cards. Bulletin Boards, Coffee Shops, Grocery Stores go into the Diaper section and leave business cards around formula and diapers. Bus Shelters are a great place to place your business cards! Look for wedding engagements and or baby announcements. If your business or product is for that niche, go to searchbug track down their address and send a congratulations along with your business card etc. Don't be shy during Halloween, add your business card to every piece of candy. I attach it to a Juice Cooler, that seems to be the easiest way.
Step3
Advertise your business on your clothing. Sweatshirts with "I Work From Home" "Ask Me How I Work From Home". Cafepress is a great resource to brand your business. No it is not cheesy at all, it really works and sells your business. Standing at the checkout at the Supermarket I am always asked, "So what do you do". I would rather market myself then Nike or Abercrombie :-)
Step4
* Get Connected in your community. Join the local area chamber of commerce, offer your service or product through Bingo Parlors, they love giving gifts or raffles. We have a summer long car show, set up a table and showcase your items or business. Call local churches and find out about advertising your business in their newsletter or program guide. Call Local High schools and advertise in their Yearbook or program guides. Call Local Hospitals and get your product or service put in a Mommy Bag for new mommies. Co-Sponsor a Local Youth Athletic Group! Get involved in any Local Expo. Contact your local Fire station and Police station, see if you can set up a table at their next BBQ. Your Local Parades are an awesome place to hand out business cards. If you can get your vehicle in the parade, do it! Then your kids or friends walk behind the car handing out candy and business cards. This is such a great way to advertise your business to the whole community. Advertise during your neighborhoods local summer concerts. Local Apartment Buildings; ask them if you can leave an info pack to be added into their "new resident" welcome pack. Public Library, go there and you will find a bulletin board to place you business cards. Contact Moving Companies in your area. Give them info packets to add to their Welcome Packets for their customers. Taxi Companies, call them and ask if you can add your brochures to their back seat magazine section. Offer them a little incentive if needed. Garage Sales! Hand out flyer's and or business cards. This is also a great place to add a small table and set up camp for a day handing out business info packs. Do this wherever they are having huge neighborhood sales!
Step5
Place a sign in your front yard or on your fence promoting your business. You should be able to find local business that can help you design your sign for whatever your budget can afford. Get your vehicle branded. Advertise on your windows with decals. Webdecal is a great place to get your car branded.
Step6
Get your vehicle prepared. Have a special box or tote filled with business cards, flyer's, samples, etc. Attach a flyer holder to your windows with your Business opportunity. Takeitpocket has a great flyer holder for your car, it simply can tell people to take one :-)

Tips & Warnings

  • Consistency is key when branding yourself in the community.
  • Replenish, Replenish, Replenish those business cards and flyer's.
  • Anytime you hand out money, have your business card attached, this does take a little practice.

on 10/9/2008 I really like the t-shirt idea. I don't like to wear branded anything. I feel like I am paying to advertise someone elses business - doesn't make too much sense. I wouldn't mind advertising my own website or business though.

Great ideas, keep it up. Please write some more.

on 7/8/2008 Very good advice, some of which I've never thought of! Especially liked this quote about wearing shirts and sweatshirts with your own logo or business information: "Standing at the checkout at the Supermarket I am always asked, "So what do you do". I would rather market myself then Nike or Abercrombie :-) " Way to go, girl! 5 stars from me!
