Remove all giblets (neck, heart, liver etc) from the cavity of the turkey or chicken. Also, check the neck area cavity for any giblets and remove them from there. Set aside

Place turkey or chicken in an upright position (will look like its standing on its neck). Run cold water through the cavity for several minutes. Occasionally pour the water from the cavity. After several pours and the water looks clear, flip the bird over to the neck cavity

Continue as above for the neck cavity. Running water into the cavity, pouring it out until the water runs clear. Prop the turkey/chicken up in the sink, neck down and let drain.
Tips & Warnings
If you have a spray nozzle available on your sink, use this.
As with all uncooked meats, once you have finished washing the cavity, be sure to thoroughly clean the sink and counter top. Then thoroughly wash your hands.
