If the stone is not mounted, turn the stone upside down and place it on a piece of newspaper. Diamonds tend to refract light so if you can read the print, chances are it’s a fake.
Step2
Diamonds are known for conducting heat. Breathe on the stone in question. If the stone stays foggy for about 4 seconds chances of that precious stone being real, is slim to none. Beware, some capped cubic zirconium based with real diamond and moissanite will pass this test.
Step3
Observe the mounting on the ring. If the setting is good quality and it does not have the initial CZ (cubic zirconium) there is a possibility stone could be real.
Step4
Look at the color of the diamond. If it’s perfectly clear chances are it is not a true diamond. Diamonds generally have a slight yellow tent, thus they are set in yellow gold to disguise the color better.
Step5
Cost of the diamond can tell you many things. If you are offered a large stone for a good price, chances are it’s not real.
Step6
If you have any doubt, I recommend you to take your jewelry to a jeweler. They can perform a more thorough test to insure your precious stone is real.

Be prepared if your ring is not real. Remember it was the thought that counts!!!!
