How to Decorate a Name Tag With Ribbon

Name tags are great way to help party guests discover each other's names, hometowns, occupations, hobbies or favorite books or songs. Once you design the tags and leave room for the party-goers to fill in their information, decorate them further with ribbon that adds color and texture.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Name tag
  • Hole punch
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Charms
  • Rubber stamps and ink
  • Buttons
  • Needle and thread
  • Ribbon buckles

Step1
Punch a hole in the top of the tag and weave a piece of coordinating ribbon through it. Tie the ribbon to a small metal clip that party guests can attach to their clothes. You can also tie it to a strand of colorful beads so they can wear their name tags like necklaces.
Step2
Add texture to the entire tag by punching holes around the edges about an inch apart. Weave ribbon in and out through the holes to create a pretty border. For a different look, tie bows through the holes, then trim and fray the ends.
Step3
Make 2 holes on the bottom-right corner of the tag and loop 2 pieces of ribbon through them. Before making a knot, add metal charms so they dangle from the tag. Also try hanging a smaller tag to the bottom where party guests can write a bit of trivia about themselves, like their favorite book, song or movie.
Step4
Dress the pieces of ribbon up before tying or weaving them onto the tag. Stamp them with small designs or alphabet stamps. Sew cute buttons on them with simple stitches. Loop through plastic or metal "ribbon buckles" in different shapes. Add multiple strands so you've got a variety of colors and textures. (See Resources.)
