Over the years, cheerleaders have led audiences in chants to keep team spirit high. Today, cheerleading incorporates a number of various arm movements, stunts and cheers to excite the audience at sporting events. One such arm movement is the broken "T." It is a basic cheerleading move and one that all who cheer need to know.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand in ready position. For a cheerleading ready position, stand with your feet at shoulder's width, back straight and hands behind your back.

  2. Step 2

Raise your arms up even with your shoulders into a "T" position. Form fists with your hands. Your arms need to be straight out, horizontal, from your body.

  3. Step 3

Bend both elbows and bring your fists into your body with your thumbs facing your body. There are about 3 inches between your fists when they face each other. Do not lean forward. Keep your head forward and your chin up. This is a full broken "T".

  4. Step 4

Lower your left arm to your waist with your elbow out to make a right broken "T."

  5. Step 5

Do a left broken "T." Keep your left arm up and lower your right arm to your waist.

  6. Step 6

Practice all three forms of the broken "T" and add them to various routines, cheers and chants.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always stretch before practicing or performing cheerleading moves to help avoid injury.
  • Do not point your elbows up. Always keep your arms straight and level.
