Ice skating is a fun and challenging activity, perfect for anything from a family outing to a romantic date. You'll need to master skating basics before you head out to the center of the ice rink, because an almost inevitable part of ice skating is the occasional fall. Usually you can manage to fall without hurting yourself too badly, but you'll need to learn how to get back up so you can get on with your day at the rink, or at least get back to the railing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look around to be sure no other skaters are heading toward you after you fall. If you're at a busy skating rink, it could be dangerous not just to fall, but also to get run over by other skaters while trying to get back up.

  2. Step 2

Come up off the ice to a sitting position after you've checked your surroundings. Swing your legs around your body and bring them back underneath you in a kneeling position, keeping your toes on the ice.

  3. Step 3

Place both hands on the ice in front of you (check for other skaters while you do this so no one skates over your fingers). Bring one foot up, placing it flat on the ice and bringing your knee into a 90-degree angle. Put your hands on your knee and thigh to help you as you lift up.

  4. Step 4

Push off your bended knee with both hands, bringing your legs into a standing position. Do your best not to lose your balance during this process so you don't fall and have to start from the beginning.
