Step 1
Bring the defensive down on the edge of the offensive line. By having the defensive lineman push the outside offensive blockers down it creates room for a blitzer from the outside. Understand that blitzing from the outside takes longer to get to the quarterback and therefore gives the quarterback more time to complete a pass.

Step 2
Rush the defensive back to the outside of the defensive end. As the defensive end pushes the outside offensive blocker inside, the defensive back rushes toward the outside and pressures the quarterback.

Step 3
Have the defensive tackles occupy inside offensive linemen. The defensive tackles ar the closest to the quarterback but has three offensive linemen directly in front of them. Therefore, on the full blitz in nickel defense, it is easier to have them occupy the linemen as a blitzing player runs through the line.

Step 4
Blitz a player up the middle directly behind the defensive tackle. With the defensive tackle, occupying the linemen a linebacker or defensive back will run through the nearest space vacated by the defensive tackle. This is the shortest avenue to the quarterback but also has the most congestion.

Step 5
Employ all the previous four steps at once to initiate the full blitz in the nickel defense. In the full blitz, you will have defensive players coming from the inside and the outside to tackle the quarterback.
