How to Backside Boardslide a Snowboard

The backside boardslide's an advanced snowboarding trick you can use to transition down boxes, rails and any other surface that's slideable. Unlike the frontside boardslide where you travel backwards down the rail, the backside boardslide lets you move forward, making it slightly easier to perform.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Approach the rail on your board so that it's facing the front side of your body. For example, if you ride with your right foot back, the rail should be downhill and to your right.
Step2
Ollie onto the rail. As soon as your board makes contact, twist your upper body so your shoulders face downhill.
Step3
Keep your knees bent and your eyes focused on the end of the rail as you continue your boardslide. Bending your knees is essential to staying on balance and in control of the snowboard.
Step4
Keep the snowboard centered over the rail, and ride it as long as you want.
Step5
Turn your shoulders away from the slope and hop off the rail. Do this in one smooth, connected motion to avoid snagging your board and wiping out.

Tips & Warnings

  • The backside boardslide's easiest to do if you mount the rail where it begins.
  • Don't lean forward during the boardslide. Shifting your weight onto to your toes can press the edge of the board into the rail and throw you off balance.
  • Don't lean back during the boardslide. The rail needs to be slick to allow you to slide, and shifting your center of mass behind your board can cause it to slip out from beneath you.
