Step 1
Close your table tennis racket when attempting a loop stroke. To do this, tilt your racket downward at a 30 degree angle. This drives the ball downward with a lot of top spin.
-
Step 2
Wait for a hard serve or hit from your opponent. The loop is most effective when the ball is coming at your rapidly. Because the ball already has a lot of speed you can hit it even harder.
-
Step 3
Take a step back. To hit a loop shot you'll need to hit the ball from behind the table.
-
Step 4
Let the table tennis ball drop. After you step back wait for the ball to begin a downward arc. This helps you to put more top spin on the loop shot. It will also help you hit the ball when it is low, which is preferable to hitting it when it is high. Hitting the ball low allows you to deliver a line drive straight down.
-
Step 5
Use a long stroke to hit the ball. Swing your shoulder and upper arm and bend your elbow, while holding your wrist still. This puts power on the shot.
-
Step 6
Hit the top of the table tennis ball with the racket to make the loop shot. Your arm motion must slant downward in order to drive the ball straight down to your opponent's side of the table. Your racket will just barely make contact with the ball.
