There's going to come a time, sooner than you think, that you'll want to stop when your on stilts. Makes sense as you'll probably not want to go forward forever. There's different ways of stopping, and read on to learn each one.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start learning to stop on stilts within falling distance of your wall. Once you get better at walking and running, you won't need to rely on the wall so much.

  2. Step 2

Stop yourself with the wall. If you start to fall, by all means, grab it and hang onto it until you can collect yourself enough to climb back onto your stilts.

  3. Step 3

Work on stopping on stilts from a walk by staggering your steps. If you want to stop, put your dominant foot forward and lean back on your back foot.

  4. Step 4

Be careful not to lean too far forward as you are stopping on stilts or too far back as that's a good way to fall down.

  5. Step 5

Stop yourself on stilts when running by converting the forward energy of your running into upward energy of jumping. You'll have to plan ahead a little as you won't be able to stop on a dime. When you wish to stop while running, bring your feet together and jump, putting all of your energy and weight down on your stilts so you'll jump straight up. This is going to take some practice, so give yourself time to learn this technique.
