Many martial arts styles use weapons for defense or offense. Nunchucks are used in more martial arts forms the any other weapon. With nunchucks, combinations are an efficient way to move through different elements and to tie them together. The thumb spin throw is an advanced combination performed with two pairs of nunchucks.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two pairs of nunchucks
  1. Step 1

Get into ready position with both pairs of nunchucks. Keep your back straight, legs separated slightly and hands in the proper position.

  2. Step 2

Pull your right arm out, turn your wrist and do a few Xs or L strikes to build speed.

  3. Step 3

Twist your wrist and do a thumb spin. While the nunchucks are moving, release your finger and allow it to spin around your thumb. Speed chucks are the only nunchucks you can do thumb spins with because the string is so short.

  4. Step 4

Grab the nunchucks while they rotate–the nunchucks are now upside down. Swing the nunchucks to the front. When it swings back, release it for the throw.

  5. Step 5

Reach back with your right hand and grab it. Catch the other side of the nunchucks or move into another move.

  6. Step 6

Do L strikes or up and down spins with your left hand once you get the right hand timed right. Do not stop moving the left hand while the right hand is going.

  7. Step 7

End with double catches, moving back to ready position or transition to another move.
