Nunchucks are regularly used in martial arts competitions and demonstrations. Nunchucks are two wooden sticks hooked together with a chain or rope. When performing a nunchucks routine, there are moments when you need to stop the nunchucks. Catches are great ways to stop at the end of a move or routine.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hold your hand straight out in front of you. Hold one side of the nunchucks in the regular grip, with your hand one thumb length from the weapon's rope or chain.

  2. Step 2

Turn your wrist into your body to swing the nunchucks toward you. Do not throw the nunchucks. Simply flick the wrist inward.

  3. Step 3

Relax your grip and pinch the nunchucks between your thumb and forefinger. As the nunchucks comes over the top, release your forefinger and close your hand around both sides of the nunchucks.

  4. Step 4

Practice this catch until it is second nature to you. Catches often save routines. If you mess up one section of a routine you can catch the nunchucks and start at the beginning of the next move.

  5. Step 5

Spin the chucks over your wrist and grab the first side. When the second side comes around, open your hand and close it around the second side of the nunchucks.

  6. Step 6

Practice catching the nunchucks in this manner with all kinds of moves. The more versatile you are with catches, the less likely you are to drop the nunchucks. Add them to the ends of routines to make the routines look clean.
