Nunchucks are martial arts weapons used in both defensive and offensive situations. The nunchuck is lightweight and fast. The X movement utilizes one side of the nunchuck for both offense and defense. Martial artists use one or two pairs of nunchucks to perform Xs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two pairs of nunchucks
  1. Step 1

Stand in ready position with your nunchucks over the right shoulder and your feet shoulder-distance apart. Hold the nunchucks one thumb length from the rope that connects the two sticks.

  2. Step 2

Swing the nunchucks to the front, over your shoulder and across your body to the left hip. This is a strike across your body.

  3. Step 3

Bring the nunchucks up to the left shoulder and cross your body again to the right hip. Do not lose your grasp on the nunchucks.

  4. Step 4

Practice this until you perform it quickly. Then practice smaller Xs as well as Xs to the side. The smaller Xs require you to twist your wrist with the nunchucks in the X motion.

  5. Step 5

Add a second set of nunchucks in your other hand.

  6. Step 6

Try adding a second set of nunchucks. Hold your arms straight out in front of you and hold the chucks up and down. There needs to be two inches between your hands.

  7. Step 7

Cross your right hand over your left while swinging the nunchucks in the X motion. Cross your left hand over your right. Continue the criss-cross movement until the move looks fluid instead of choppy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not add a second set until you learn the basic X move.
